Southwest monsoon likely to reach Telangana in June first week

Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that the southwest monsoon is likely to enter Telangana in the first week of June this year, with its arrival expected to be delayed by four to five days compared to last year.

According to officials, the monsoon is expected to reach Kerala on May 26 before advancing further into other parts of the country. Usually, the southwest monsoon enters Telangana within four to seven days after reaching the Kerala coast.

The weather department said the southwest monsoon had already advanced into the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, parts of the Bay of Bengal and some areas of the Arabian Sea. Officials added that atmospheric conditions remained favourable for its further progress.

Meteorological officials said the delayed arrival could slightly affect the beginning of seasonal rainfall activity across the state. However, they clarified that the monsoon system was progressing normally over southern regions.

Farmers and residents in Telangana generally depend on the southwest monsoon for agricultural activity and water availability during the rainy season. Weather experts are closely monitoring the movement of the system over the coming days.

The IMD is expected to issue regular updates regarding the advancement of the monsoon and rainfall conditions across Telangana as the season approaches.
