Revanth Reddy urges support for Justice Sudarshan Reddy’s vice-presidential bid

Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Tuesday said democracy and constitutional institutions were under threat in the country due to the NDA’s misuse of authority and mockery of the electoral process.

Addressing a press conference at his Jubilee Hills residence, he stated that a clear divide had emerged between parties fighting to protect the Constitution and those aiming to dismantle it. In this context, he welcomed the INDIA alliance’s decision to nominate retired judge Justice Sudarshan Reddy as its vice-presidential candidate, calling it timely and commendable.

Justice Sudarshan Reddy’s Telugu identity a key factor, says CM

Revanth Reddy described the nomination as a rare opportunity for a Telugu personality to assume a high constitutional post after the tenure of P.V. Narasimha Rao. He appealed to every Telugu citizen to work for Justice Sudarshan Reddy’s success, stressing that the responsibility was collective and transcended party lines.

He urged all Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to unite regardless of political affiliation. Addressing leaders including Chandrababu Naidu, K. Chandrashekar Rao, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Pawan Kalyan, and Asaduddin Owaisi, he said the moment called for unity over politics to uphold the dignity of Telugu people.

The Chief Minister highlighted that Justice Sudarshan Reddy, who hails from a farming background, had served the nation with distinction as a judge and Lokayukta. He emphasized that the nominee was not representing any party but stood as a defender of the Constitution.

Recalling historical precedent, Revanth Reddy pointed out that when P.V. Narasimha Rao contested from Nandyal, N.T. Rama Rao had refrained from fielding a candidate against him and instead extended full support. He said the same spirit was needed today to ensure Justice Sudarshan Reddy’s victory and reaffirm commitment to the Constitution and Telugu pride.
