Revanth credits Congress CMs for Hyderabad’s rise, blasts BRS, BJP over state failures

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said the current Congress government is carrying forward the development vision of former CMs N Janardhan Reddy and Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, whose initiatives in IT and pharma sectors shaped Hyderabad into a global hub.

Speaking at a “Meet the Press” event hosted by the Hyderabad Press Club, Revanth Reddy said Hyderabad’s present status as a centre for Global Capability Centres and data centres stemmed from the foundations laid by past Congress governments.

He noted that former CM Janardhan Reddy laid the groundwork for the IT sector, which later emerged as a critical driver of Hyderabad’s transformation. “It was during YSR’s tenure that major infrastructure like the Shamshabad Airport and the Outer Ring Road were developed. Congress CMs made decisions that paved the way for Hyderabad to become a knowledge city,” he said.

Revanth Reddy claimed that between 2004 and 2014, when Congress was in power at both the Centre and state, 70% of all central institutions allocated to India came to Hyderabad. He said the impact of those policies is still visible today, as Hyderabad now hosts several global firms.

Revanth lists Congress schemes, slams BRS and mocks KTR’s campaign

Accusing the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government of complete failure across sectors, Revanth Reddy questioned the outcome of flagship projects like Kaleshwaram. “Did a single acre get water from Kaleshwaram?” he asked. He said the current Congress-led administration produced 2.85 crore metric tonnes of paddy without relying on that project. “They didn’t build even one irrigation project. Kalwakurthy, SLBC, Bheema, Nettempadu — all remained pending,” he said.

He criticised former CM K Chandrashekar Rao for focusing on “non-productive” constructions like the Command Control Centre, Pragathi Bhavan, and the new Secretariat, while public sector health and education suffered. “Osmania Hospital wasn’t rebuilt. TIMS weren’t completed. Over 5,000 schools were shut,” he said.

Targeting BRS working president K T Rama Rao, Revanth Reddy said his public campaigning resembled an item song from the movie Pushpa, mocking it as theatrical and detached from ground realities. “There is no line of leadership in his life,” he said, comparing KCR to Dhritarashtra for allegedly shielding his son.

Revanth Reddy further alleged that KTR insulted his own sister and maternal aunt. “If he can’t respect his own family, how will he lead the state?” he asked. On the issue of KTR’s alleged involvement in corruption, he said the state had requested the Governor’s permission to arrest him, but three months later, approval was still pending.

Refuting opposition claims, he listed Congress-led reforms including caste census, SC categorisation, free bus travel for women, Rs. 500 gas cylinders, and free distribution of ration and fine rice. “We didn’t cancel a single BRS scheme. Instead, we added several new ones,” he said.

He said Telangana became the first state to implement caste enumeration and SC sub-categorisation. “We made bold policy moves no other government in India has attempted,” Revanth Reddy added.

BJP trying to shift industry to Gujarat, alleges Revanth

The Chief Minister accused the BJP of attempting to divert industries away from Telangana. He claimed Union Minister G Kishan Reddy tried to relocate a semiconductor company to Gujarat. “The BJP and BRS have a Fevicol bond,” he remarked, referring to their alleged political proximity.

He challenged Kishan Reddy’s silence on issues affecting Telangana, accusing him of bowing to Gujarat’s interests. “If you have any issue with me, take it to Modi. Attacking me won’t help,” he said.

Revanth Reddy said his government had already spent Rs. 7,100 crore on free RTC travel, brought Rajiv Aarogyasri coverage up to Rs. 10 lakh, and started construction of a new Osmania Hospital with a budget of Rs. 3,000 crore. “We’re building a new High Court on 100 acres. We’ve not stopped any old scheme. We added more. We’re giving 200 units of free electricity, waived Rs. 21,000 crore in farm loans, and disbursed Rs. 9,000 crore under Rythu Bharosa in just nine days,” he said.

He said over 20,000 job notifications had been issued since Congress came to power and that over 60,000 appointments were completed. Revanth Reddy contrasted the current administration’s focus on education, agriculture, and women’s empowerment with what he called the “pub culture” and “celebrity-driven politics” of the previous regime.

Calling on voters in Jubilee Hills, he said only a Congress victory could ensure development. “We will stay in power for the next ten years. There will be no Assembly elections in December 2028. Lok Sabha elections will happen in June 2029. Congress will rule until June 2034 – write it down,” he said.
