Hyderabad: Telangana ration card e-KYC must be completed by July 31, the Civil Supplies Department said. Officials warned that beneficiaries who miss the deadline could face disruption in future ration supplies.
Government rules require every member listed on a ration card to complete biometric or iris authentication. Beneficiaries can complete the process free of cost. They must visit their local fair price shop or MeeSeva centre. They should carry the ration card and Aadhaar cards of all listed members.
The department also offers iris authentication for senior citizens. People with illnesses can use the facility. Beneficiaries whose fingerprints do not match can also opt for iris verification.
Ration card e-KYC made mandatory for beneficiaries
Officials said the verification process would ensure that welfare benefits reached only genuine eligible beneficiaries. The exercise will improve transparency in the public distribution system. It will also help officials identify fake and invalid ration cards.
Additionally, the verification drive will help officials remove the names of deceased beneficiaries. It will also identify people who have migrated to other places but continue to remain on ration cards.
Only a few days remain before the deadline. Officials urged beneficiaries to complete the verification process without delay. They advised families to visit the nearest ration shop immediately instead of waiting until the final day.
Officials warned that they could remove the names of members who fail to complete the verification before the deadline. Those members could lose access to subsidised ration supplies. They could also miss other government welfare schemes linked to ration cards.
