Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Wednesday accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the Congress party of undermining democratic values and attacking the Constitution.
Speaking during a wall-writing campaign at Lalapet in Secunderabad ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public meeting on May 10, Rao claimed political momentum was shifting towards the BJP across the country.
Rao alleged that Mamata Banerjee’s refusal to step down despite what he described as an “electoral defeat” amounted to disrespect towards constitutional principles.
He referred to Article 172 of the Constitution and argued that continuing in office beyond the mandate violated its spirit.
Constitutional attack remarks target Rahul Gandhi
The Telangana BJP chief also criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his references to the Constitution during political campaigns.
Rao said Rahul Gandhi frequently carried a copy of the Constitution but lacked understanding of its provisions. He further termed the Congress party’s alliance with Mamata Banerjee as “shameful”.
He accused the Congress of changing its political narrative from “vote theft” to “seat theft” in recent debates.
Constitutional attack claims raised before Modi rally
Calling for wider public participation, Rao urged people to attend Prime Minister Modi’s rally at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad on May 10.
He said the public meeting would mark the beginning of a major political shift in Telangana. BJP leaders continued campaign activities in the city ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit.
