Hyderabad: Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy sharply responded to K. Chandrashekhar Rao’s remarks at the BRS Silver Jubilee public meeting in Warangal, challenging the former Chief Minister to a full debate in the Assembly.
Speaking to the media, Ponguleti said that if KCR had truly achieved great things during his tenure, it would have been better if he had listed them. “It would have been more appropriate for KCR to admit the mistakes made during his rule,” he remarked.
Questioning KCR’s commitment to social justice, Ponguleti said, “If he could not make a Dalit the Chief Minister, he could have at least offered the post of Leader of the Opposition to a Dalit.”
The Minister accused KCR of looting the state’s treasury and falsely blaming the Congress government for not rolling out schemes. “We tried to listen to his suggestions, thinking he might offer constructive ideas,” Ponguleti said, throwing an open challenge to KCR to fix a date for an open debate on all issues in the Assembly.
Highlighting the pending contractor bills and unpaid dues to village sarpanches, Ponguleti pointed out that these debts had accumulated during KCR’s administration, not under the current Congress rule. “The sarpanches’ dues remained pending when KCR was in power,” he noted.
Ponguleti also accused KCR of harbouring hatred and trying to portray the Congress as a villain. “The man who turned Telangana, a rich state, into one burdened with ₹8 lakh crore debt is now blaming the Congress party, the very party that granted Telangana statehood,” he said.
Recalling KCR’s past, Ponguleti said, “This is the same KCR who once bowed a thousand times before Sonia Gandhi, now trying to vilify the Congress.”
He criticised KCR for never attending the Secretariat or the Assembly during his decade-long rule, ruling like a feudal lord despite claiming to have read 80,000 books.
Referring to KCR’s actions during the farmers’ agitation, Ponguleti said, “You told farmers not to grow paddy, yet you cultivated paddy at your farmhouse.”
He alleged that under KCR’s leadership, the BRS became the richest regional party in the country and accused KCR of daydreaming about returning to power. “During KCR’s regime, auto drivers and taxi drivers were harassed to prevent them from attending Congress meetings, RTC buses were withheld — yet now he talks about democracy,” he said.
Ponguleti further stated, “If we wanted to create trouble, today’s KCR meeting would not have even taken place.”
Accusing KCR of moral hypocrisy, he said, “The man who snooped on couples’ phone conversations abroad is now giving lectures on democracy.”
Responding to KCR’s claims on welfare, Ponguleti said, “While KCR gave ₹10,000 under Rythu Bandhu, the Congress government will give ₹15,000.”
He challenged KCR to show where Congress sold university lands or prove allegations related to Outer Ring Road leasing and early wine shop tenders.
“It would have been better if KCR spoke about the fine rice scheme in his speech,” he added, mentioning that the Congress government was working to implement the Indiramma housing scheme even as local elections were on hold.
Ponguleti questioned why KCR had not spoken about the ₹1 lakh crore corruption scandal alleged in the Kaleshwaram Project, stating that an investigation report was forthcoming and the government would act on it.
