Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday virtually opened three redeveloped railway stations in Telangana – Begumpet, Warangal, and Karimnagar – under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, marking a notable step in the state’s railway upgrade.
Begumpet, in particular, stands out. It’s now the first station in the South Central Railway zone to be fully run by an all-women team, adding a meaningful milestone to the revamp. Begumpet station itself got a major upgrade, with more than ₹25 crore spent to overhaul its infrastructure – a clear sign of the effort to make daily travel smoother and more commuter-friendly.
Across all three stations, passengers will now find higher platforms, more ways to get in and out, along with new lifts, escalators, and other upgrades designed to make getting around a lot easier.
Speaking at the launch, Union Minister and Telangana BJP President G Kishan Reddy said the state is set for major changes in its railway network over the next few years. Around ₹5,000 crore is currently being spent on projects statewide, with a focus on building modern, commuter-friendly infrastructure.
He also shared that nearly 600 km of railway lines in Telangana have been fitted with ‘Kavach’, a safety system designed to prevent accidents. Kishan Reddy added that Komuravelli station will open to the public during the Dussehra festival.
Looking ahead, he mentioned that railway projects worth close to ₹80,000 crore are in the pipeline for Telangana and urged the state government to fast-track land acquisition to avoid delays.
Kishan Reddy also confirmed that Phase 2 of the MMTS (Multi-Modal Transport System) will soon extend services to Yadadri. Additionally, Prime Minister Modi is expected to lay the foundation stone for a new railway manufacturing unit in Kazipet.
South Central Railway General Manager Anil Kumar Jain, who was at the event, outlined the key features added to each station as part of the redevelopment.
