Phone tapping case: KTR slams SIT over notice to KCR

Hyderabad: BRS working president K T Rama Rao strongly criticised the manner in which the Special Investigation Team served notices to former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao in the phone tapping case.

Reacting to the development, Rama Rao questioned Chief Minister Revanth Reddy over what he described as a vindictive approach towards the principal opposition leader. According to him, the SIT ignored KCR’s reply that clearly mentioned his present residence address.

Despite that clarification, officials allegedly visited the Banjara Hills Nandinagar house late at night. There, they pasted notices on the gate when no one was present. As a result, Rama Rao termed the action harassment and accused the government of arrogance.

Rama Rao further said police violated rules that require questioning people above 65 years at their residence. He then asked whether officers even understood standard operating procedures. He also alleged that the government misused police machinery to target opposition leaders.

However, he said the BRS had complete faith in law and justice. Therefore, he warned that the party would expose every illegal action. Meanwhile, he added that people were closely watching the government’s conduct and would respond at the right time.

Meanwhile, SIT officials again issued notices to KCR on Friday night under Section 160 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The team reached the Nandinagar residence around 9.30 pm. Since no one was present, officers pasted the notice on the wall.

According to the notice, KCR must remain available for questioning at 3 pm on Sunday. The SIT cited Panjagutta police station Crime No. 243/2024. It also stated that election affidavits and Assembly records listed Nandinagar as his official residence.

However, the SIT rejected KCR’s request for questioning at his Erravalli residence in Siddipet district. Officials said that address did not appear in official records. They also said sensitive electronic and physical records could not be moved outside Hyderabad.
