Panchayat funds are constitutional rights, not Congress charity: KTR

Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Tuesday said panchayat funds and welfare schemes like Indiramma Houses are constitutional rights, not charity from Congress legislators.

Addressing a felicitation ceremony at Telangana Bhavan for newly elected sarpanches, upa-sarpanches, and ward members from Khanapur and Shadnagar, Rama Rao accused Congress MLAs of overstepping their role. He said Gram Sabhas and elected panchayat leaders not MLAs must decide beneficiaries.

He criticised the state government for cutting BC reservations in local bodies from 24% to 17%. According to him, the move aimed to rush elections and access Rs 3,500 crore from the Central Finance Commission. He insisted that 70% of these funds are legally meant for gram panchayats and cannot be diverted by the Chief Minister or legislators.

Rama Rao also slammed the government’s handling of agriculture. He said farmers who earlier received Rythu Bandhu and doorstep fertilisers now wait in long queues for urea. He dismissed the recently launched “Urea App” as a PR stunt with no real impact on ground shortages.

He predicted that BRS would return to power. He promised a revival of rural development under former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao. He also called the current Chief Minister’s direct campaigning in local polls a sign of insecurity.

Several senior BRS leaders, including former MLAs and party functionaries, attended the programme.
