Hyderabad: A series of night lorry crashes in and around Torrur town in Mahabubabad district has left residents alarmed. Locals are now demanding urgent action from the state government.
On Tuesday around 4:30 a.m., a granite-laden lorry traveling from Warangal to Khammam crashed into the central divider near the Torrur bus stand. The collision injured both the driver and the cleaner, and local residents shifted them to a private hospital in Khammam.
Granite spill blocks road
The crash caused granite blocks to tumble onto the road, disrupting traffic flow. Residents noted that similar incidents have occurred frequently in recent weeks, especially during late-night hours.
Despite the absence of major casualties, these repeated accidents have increased anxiety in the area. Many blame the accidents on drivers operating vehicles while drowsy or sleep-deprived.
Community urges night driving regulations
Residents say drowsy driving has become a major safety threat. They urged traffic police and the transport department to strictly monitor heavy vehicle movement during night hours. In their view, random checks and time-based restrictions could reduce the risks.
Moreover, citizens want the government to mandate rest periods for night drivers. They are also asking for awareness programs and special training focused on night-time operations.
If authorities fail to act, locals fear that future accidents could prove fatal. They stressed the need for coordinated efforts from both the transport and police departments to ensure road safety in the region.
