Nalgonda to be developed as super smart city: Komatireddy

Hyderabad: Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said on Saturday that the government will transform Nalgonda into a super smart city with infrastructure on par with Hyderabad.

He made the statement after launching civic works worth ₹18.70 crore under Nalgonda Municipal Corporation limits. The government, he said, has already spent ₹2,000 crore on the town’s development and is ready to approve another ₹2,000 crore if needed.

₹1,200 crore worth of infrastructure projects underway

Komatireddy thanked Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for granting corporation status to Nalgonda. This move, he said, would bring direct central funding and help fast-track urban projects.

He outlined several ongoing works. A ₹216 crore underground drainage system and sewage treatment plant is progressing under AMRUT-2. Drinking water upgrades worth ₹56.75 crore include 12 water tanks and new pipelines. Internal roads and drainage works are advancing with ₹53 crore from TUFIDC funds. Another ₹109 crore from SDF is funding flood canals, roads, and cremation grounds.

Major road projects include a ₹545 crore bypass road and a ₹565 crore corridor linking Panagallu Chaya Someshwara Temple to SLBC Colony. Another ₹260 crore is being spent on the SLBC Medical College–Addanki road. He said many of these roads have already passed the 70% completion mark.

Out of five sanctioned power substations, four are already under construction.

Civic upgrades in education, health and employment

The Minister also reviewed key projects like the new NAC building, a nursing college, Critical Care Centre, and the ₹200 crore Young India Integrated Residential School. Mahatma Gandhi University will receive new blocks and launch professional courses.

He said Nalgonda will soon get digital classrooms, food streets, urban health centres, SETWIN skill centres, and updated medical facilities. These works are being implemented with help from state agencies and philanthropic support.

Komatireddy urged citizens to cooperate with ongoing projects. He said the corporation status opens the door to major growth opportunities. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the SLBC tunnel.

District Collector B. Chandrasekhar, Additional Collector J. Srinivas, senior officials and public representatives attended the event.
