Lalitha lived with her son Abhilash, 33, and struggled with ill health since the death of her husband Devaraj six years ago. Her daughters Maunika and Manasa had married earlier. Abhilash worked in the 17th Police Battalion after securing a constable job in 2012. His family had recently begun searching for a marriage alliance for him.

Abhilash broke down after seeing his mother’s body near the stream. While police and locals stood nearby, he suddenly ran forward and jumped into the water. No one at the spot knew how to swim, and the group could not rescue him. Police later retrieved both bodies and shifted them to the government hospital in Sircilla. They registered a case and began an investigation.
