Hyderabad: The Hydraa commissioner commended monsoon emergency and disaster response teams on Friday for safeguarding Hyderabad during intense rainfall this season. He said the city trusted Hydraa because teams cleared silt from catchpits, culverts and drains to ensure smooth water flow. He addressed an appreciation meeting at Jalavihar marking the completion of 150 days of monsoon duty.
Hydraa commissioner outlines results of monsoon work
The Hydraa commissioner recalled that officers had met at the same venue five months earlier to plan seasonal duties. He said the teams exceeded expectations and strengthened the government’s reputation through consistent effort. Workers reached vulnerable zones during heavy spells and earned public praise. He added that teams studied each issue carefully and worked on root causes instead of limiting themselves to temporary solutions.
He praised disaster-response staff, SFVs, marshals and MET teams for their dedication. They removed nearly 3,000 lorry loads of silt from major drains. Their effort helped residents travel without fear of flooding. He noted that cloudbursts dropped 10 to 18 centimetres of rain on several days this season, yet the teams ensured effective results.
The commissioner presented mementoes to personality-development experts Vanga Rajendra Prasad, M. Nursing and Chillanchetty Ganesh. He also honoured 30 MET members with appreciation certificates, gifts and shawls for outstanding service. He said workers from both city zones and nearby villages took part in operations and showed strong commitment.
Hydraa commissioner highlights major safeguards and future readiness
The Hydraa commissioner said this season gave the teams valuable experience that would help them work more efficiently next year. He added that MET teams, DRF and SFVs now understood flood-prone areas and the causes behind those risks. Hydraa cleared silted drains in Ameerpet to prevent overflow and removed encroachments along the Patny drain to protect 25 colonies and bastis. He described these measures as major achievements.
Hydraa’s additional director, Varla Papayya, explained the work done by the DRF and SFV teams this season. Hydraa admin SP R. Sudarshan advised teams on financial discipline and health precautions. He praised their readiness to work through festivals without taking leave. Hydraa also presented details of its 150-day monsoon operations.
