Hyderabad: Three youths, including Bharat Raj Reddy, the son of a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC), were arrested in the Hyderabad drugs case after they were allegedly caught while purchasing narcotic substances in Mangalhat. Police also launched a search for four other suspects who fled the spot.
The incident took place near Puranapul under the limits of Mangalhat Police Station. According to the police, seven youths had gathered to purchase ganja and hash oil. However, officers intercepted the group and detained three of them, while the remaining four escaped after noticing the police presence.
The arrested persons were identified as Bharat Raj Reddy, Abhishek and Bottu Yunit. Reports said one of the accused was the son of a prominent political leader.
Police seized 24 grams of hash oil sachets and 22 grams of ganja from the accused. Subsequently, a case was registered and the investigation was intensified. Efforts were also launched to trace the four absconding suspects.
Hyderabad drugs case sparks political discussion
The Hyderabad drugs case also triggered political discussion after reports claimed that one of the accused was a close relative of a senior minister in the state government.
Some reports further alleged that attempts were made to influence the handling of the case. It was also claimed that pressure was exerted on senior police officials to prevent the registration of the case. However, these allegations have not been officially confirmed by the police.
Authorities are yet to issue a detailed official statement regarding the reported political angle. Meanwhile, the investigation into the Hyderabad drugs case remained underway.
