MLC Addanki Dayakar demands apology from KTR over Speaker remark

Hyderabad: Congress MLC Addanki Dayakar on Monday demanded a public apology from BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao for allegedly insulting the Constitution and the Assembly Speaker during his Republic Day remarks. The demand for an apology from KTR was reiterated multiple times during the media briefing.

Addressing reporters, Dayakar criticised KTR for comparing the Speaker to “Dhritarashtra,” calling it an attack on constitutional dignity. He said the comment showed disrespect toward both the Speaker and the Chief Minister, which, according to Dayakar, necessitated an apology from KTR.

Congress slams KTR for “anti-constitutional” conduct

Dayakar said former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had repeatedly credited the Constitution for the creation of Telangana, and accused KTR of acting in an “anti-constitutional” manner while claiming to uphold its values. Calls for an apology from KTR grew stronger as the Congress continued to criticize his remarks.

He also challenged KTR’s criticism of Congress for inducting opposition MLAs, pointing out that the BRS had engaged in similar practices when in power. According to Dayakar, KTR’s comments reflected political frustration and had been rejected by the public. Above all, Dayakar insisted that an apology from KTR was essential for restoring public trust.

Calling it unfortunate to have such opposition leadership, Dayakar urged KTR to acknowledge his mistake and issue a formal apology.
