Hyderabad: Minister Ponnam Prabhakar extended warm greetings to fishing communities on World Fisheries Day, which was marked on 21 November. Moreover, he praised Gangaputras, Besthas, Gundlas and Mudiraj families for preserving the traditional fishing profession across generations. He said the day recognised groups that depended on fish-based livelihoods for survival.
In his video message, he noted that fishermen played a key role in ensuring food security and supporting the national economy. As a result, he said the government valued their daily efforts and long-standing service. He stressed that the administration remained committed to the welfare of all those working in the sector. Additionally, he said their contribution formed the backbone of rural nutritional support.

The Minister stated that the government continued to protect the fishing occupation and improve incomes for families that relied on it. He said fish seed distribution helped safeguard the trade while supplying food to poor households. Furthermore, he added that this system preserved the profession and opened pathways for financial growth.
He explained that fish seed supply had supported earnings in many districts for years. Besides this, he said it boosted pond productivity and helped families earn more each season. He added that the government wanted every fishing worker to gain economic strength while staying rooted in their occupation. Moreover, he said these steps aimed to build confidence among all those involved in fisheries.

During his message, he conveyed heartfelt wishes to all families linked to the profession. He hoped their incomes would rise and their living standards would improve in the coming years.
