Medchal police detain hotel worker over alleged Pakistan terror links

Hyderabad: Medchal police detained a hotel worker for allegedly maintaining Pakistan terror links and sharing sensitive information through social media platforms.

Police identified the accused as Zaheed Khan, a native of Uttar Pradesh currently working at Mubarak Hotel in Medchal. According to investigators, he shifted to Hyderabad in February this year and started working as a waiter.

Officials said the accused remained in constant contact with Pakistan-based operatives through Instagram. During the investigation, police found that he had repeatedly expressed interest in travelling to Pakistan for terror-related training.

Investigators alleged that Pakistan-based handlers asked Zaheed to share details related to certain public representatives and security arrangements. Police suspect that he passed on some information through online communication platforms.

Police also found that the accused regularly watched terror-related videos and uploaded photographs featuring firearms on social media. During the operation, officials seized one mobile phone and two fake pistols from his possession.

According to investigators, the accused knowingly interacted with Pakistan ISI-linked operatives despite being aware of the security implications. Officials are now analysing his communication history and deleted digital records.

The seized mobile phone reportedly contained Instagram reels, WhatsApp chats, screenshots and voice call records connected to the investigation. Intelligence and counter-intelligence teams joined the probe to examine the digital evidence in detail.

During the inquiry, investigators identified one Pakistan-based individual allegedly involved in terror-related activities. Police are currently verifying the accused’s contacts and online network.

Medchal police took the accused into custody and are likely to seek further interrogation as part of the ongoing investigation.
