Hyderabad: Six students were hospitalised after losing consciousness from smoke inhalation during a fire at a private hostel in Medchal district late on Saturday. The incident occurred at the Nine Education Hostel located in Citizen Colony, Alwal.
According to officials, the fire broke out after air conditioners exploded on the fourth floor. The flames quickly spread to the fifth floor, trapping 20 students inside a room. Heavy smoke accumulation led to six students fainting, while others were rescued.
Police shifted the affected students to a nearby hospital for treatment. Four ambulances and one fire engine were deployed to the scene for emergency response.
Glass building trapped smoke during Medchal hostel fire
Authorities noted that the building was entirely glass-covered, preventing smoke from escaping and worsening conditions inside. This contributed to panic and suffocation among students.
The fire was brought under control, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the AC blast and assess fire safety violations.
