Hyderabad: Congress MP Mallu Ravi demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Friday, accusing the Centre of using the police to suppress INDIA bloc protests against the Election Commission. He alleged that the police had physically attacked Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi.
Ravi said INDIA bloc MPs would meet at Parliament at 3 pm on Friday to decide their next course of action. He accused the BJP-led government of trying to prevent opposition leaders from holding protests.
The MP also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the handling of the demonstrations. He alleged that Gyanesh Kumar had committed wrongdoing and that Modi and Shah should also face punishment for enabling it.

Ravi criticised the Centre for bringing 7,000 personnel from Chhattisgarh to Delhi to contain the protests. He alleged that the government was using force to curb demonstrations against the Election Commission.
He also accused the BJP of disrupting transport arrangements after the Congress announced plans to hold a democratic protest. According to Ravi, the move aimed to stop people from joining demonstrations.
The Congress MP reiterated that Gyanesh Kumar should resign and said INDIA bloc MPs would discuss further action at their scheduled Parliament meeting at 3 pm.
