Hyderabad: Langer House Police apprehended six members of an alleged organised gang in the Langer House theft case. Police recovered 13.5 tulas of stolen gold ornaments, Rs 7.4 lakh in cash and vehicles.
The gang allegedly committed thefts by diverting the attention of victims, police said. The investigation began after 71-year-old retired SBI bank manager Dama Mohan lodged a complaint on August 1.
According to police, the accused targeted him near Shah Ghouse Hotel within Langer House police limits. They allegedly stole four gold bangles, three chains and a locket. In addition, the victim lost three gold rings in the incident.
Langer House theft probe used CCTV footage
Police examined CCTV footage while investigating the complaint. Moreover, Langer House officers coordinated with neighbouring police stations and the Golconda Zone Task Force. The investigation eventually led police to the suspects near Shah Ghouse Hotel.
Officers traced them at around 12.12 am on August 16. Subsequently, police apprehended all six suspects. Police identified them as Syed Asad, Omer Khan, Syed Moin, Azar Hussain, Mohd Ibrahim and Syed Abdul Majeed.
According to investigators, the suspects admitted their involvement during questioning. Police also said some members of the alleged gang had previous criminal records. Those records included rowdy-sheet or suspect-sheet entries.
Langer House theft property recovered
During the operation, police recovered the stolen gold ornaments weighing 13.5 tulas. Officers also recovered Rs 7.4 lakh in cash. Furthermore, they seized an autorickshaw and a motorcycle.
Six mobile phones were also among the items seized during the Langer House theft investigation. Sub-Inspector Rambabu and the crime staff apprehended the suspects.
Inspector and SHO B. Venkatramulu and Detective Inspector K. Satyanarayana guided the operation. Tolichowki Division ACP Syed Fiaz supervised the police action in the Golconda Zone.
