Hyderabad: BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao on Friday thanked Jubilee Hills voters and party workers for their support, while raising questions about alleged irregularities during the recent Assembly elections.
Speaking at Telangana Bhavan, KTR said the BRS candidate in Jubilee Hills lacked political experience but fought hard to win. He congratulated rival candidate Maganti Sunitha and expressed gratitude to every voter and party worker, naming them individually for their efforts.
He stated that the party had polled a significant vote share in the constituency. “We contest every election to win. As the main opposition over the last two years, we sincerely highlighted people’s issues,” he said.
Despite pre-poll surveys predicting a BRS victory, the Congress emerged successful. KTR said the BRS respected the people’s verdict and viewed the election outcome as a source of renewed energy. “The public has indicated that BRS is a clear alternative,” he asserted.
Jubilee Hills voters gave significant support, says KTR
Referring to past trends, KTR noted that Congress had failed to win any of the seven by-elections held between 2014 and 2023. “Even in the Greater Hyderabad polls, they secured just one or two seats. Yet they came to power despite losing deposits,” he said.
He accused the ruling party of deceiving the public on key promises, and claimed the BRS campaign remained focused on real issues. “We stayed dignified even when others resorted to abuse. We highlighted ₹5,300 crore worth of development in Jubilee Hills,” he said.
KTR said the party exposed Congress’s failures using a “due card” model and raised concerns from Hyderabad’s infrastructure to auto drivers’ struggles. He credited BRS’s pressure for forcing the government to review its guarantees and minority representation.
“Our fight is for the people, not for power,” he stated, while urging a broader public and media discussion on how the election was conducted. He alleged that fake voter cards, bogus votes, and malpractice occurred from nomination filing to polling day, and said multiple complaints were filed with the Election Commission.
KTR questions election process, criticises BJP-Congress nexus
He demanded scrutiny into the functioning of the Election Commission and police. “There’s a need for introspection on the low voter turnout. While we received a good share of votes, the BJP remained in single digits and lost its deposit,” he said.
Calling the Congress-BJP dynamic a “political collusion,” he claimed business interests like RS Brothers had influenced the outcome.
Despite the setback, KTR said the people had endorsed BRS as an alternative post-Parliament elections. “We will continue working as a strong opposition. Our goal remains to bring KCR back as Chief Minister,” he said.
He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to exposing corruption and malpractice through social media and public campaigns. “We thank every social media warrior and party worker who fought for justice,” he said.
Looking ahead, he predicted disqualification of defecting MLAs and subsequent by-elections, similar to events in West Bengal. “If Congress struggled so much in Jubilee Hills alone, we’ll see how they handle 10 by-elections,” he remarked.
He also acknowledged the personal sacrifices of senior leaders like Harish Rao and Ravinder Rao, who continued campaign efforts despite personal bereavements. “Many even skipped Diwali to work for the party’s success. We’re grateful to each of them,” he said.
