KTR cites Economic Survey to rebut Congress ‘diversion politics’ charge

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K. T. Rama Rao on Friday said the Economic Survey 2025–26 had exposed what he described as the Congress government’s diversionary politics.

Referring to notices issued to former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, KTR said Chief Minister Revanth Reddy tried to divert public attention through what he called a false case.

However, on the same day, the Economic Survey brought Telangana’s development under BRS rule into focus, he said. Therefore, attempts to dilute the achievements of the previous government failed, KTR added.

According to him, one cannot hide development with political manoeuvres. He said repeated efforts to undermine a decade of governance did not succeed.

Earlier, institutions such as the RBI and NITI Aayog, along with global publications like The Economist, had acknowledged Telangana’s performance, he noted. Now, he said, the Economic Survey 2025–26 had joined that list.

Economic Survey details irrigation expansion under KCR

Citing the survey, KTR said the state’s irrigated area rose from 1.31 crore acres in 2014 to 2.2 crore acres by the 2023 financial year.

He said the survey credited the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project and the Mission Kakatiya programme for driving this expansion. As a result, Telangana witnessed a major irrigation transformation.

Within nine years, the BRS government provided irrigation facilities to an additional 89 lakh acres, the survey noted, he said. Moreover, it described Kaleshwaram as the world’s largest multi-stage lift irrigation project.

KTR said these findings left little scope for what he termed diversionary politics. He added that the survey clearly documented the scale of progress achieved during KCR’s tenure.
