Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Friday challenged rebel Serilingampally MLA Arikepudi Gandhi to resign and face a by-election. He questioned Gandhi’s absence from party events despite his public declaration of loyalty.
Speaking at a party meeting at Telangana Bhavan, where Congress leader Dosala Anil of Alwyn Colony formally joined the BRS, KTR accused Gandhi of betrayal and land grabbing. “His name may be Gandhi, but his actions show otherwise,” KTR remarked while welcoming Anil with the party’s pink scarf.
BRS eyes GHMC polls amid internal rifts and Congress fire
KTR claimed that local authorities and political rivals deliberately blocked public meetings in Alwyn Colony by pressuring venue owners to deny access. He urged party workers to unite ahead of the upcoming GHMC elections. He also promised roles for deserving leaders and pledged to push the state government for development funds.
Highlighting past electoral strength, KTR said BRS had won 23 Assembly seats in Hyderabad and gained control of GHMC without external support. He added that the party secured around 40% of Sarpanch positions in recent rural elections. This dealt a blow to the Congress.
KTR dismissed reports of a potential GHMC trifurcation, stating that voters would have the final say. He expressed confidence that BRS president K. Chandrashekar Rao would return as Chief Minister.
Taking aim at the Congress, KTR alleged that Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy’s son was involved in land grabbing. He mentioned that the complainant in the case had been transferred. He also accused Minister Konda Surekha’s daughter of extortion.
