Hyderabad: Tourism and Culture Minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Friday urged Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy to begin immediate soybean procurement through NAFED in Adilabad. He cited growing distress among farmers due to crop damage caused by unseasonal rains. This distress highlights the urgent need for NAFED soybean.
The ministers met at the Pen Ganga Guest House in Adilabad, where they interacted with affected farmers. Jupally said that procurement centres had refused to buy discoloured soybean, forcing farmers to wait for days while stocks piled up in villages. This situation makes NAFED soybean procurement more critical to ensure the Minimum Support Price is met unless the Centre launched procurement operations without delay.
Market yards stall; farmers face financial strain
Earlier in the day, Jupally visited the Neradigonda market yard unannounced. He met farmers and promised full support from the Telangana government. He also reminded the Centre that State Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao had already written to the Union Agriculture Ministry emphasizing the importance of NAFED soybean procurement.
Jupally said the delay from the Centre had pushed farmers deeper into crisis. He urged the Union Minister to act immediately and remove all bureaucratic delays to start NAFED soybean procurement operations in the region.
