Hyderabad: TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud defended the Congress high command’s action against former minister Konda Surekha on Friday. He said Konda Surekha conduct had violated party discipline and was considered objectionable.
Speaking to the media in Delhi, Mahesh Goud said Congress allowed its leaders freedom of expression. However, he maintained that party leaders were required to follow organisational discipline.
He said Surekha had made the statements out of “anger and anguish.” Therefore, he advised her to refrain from making such statements in the future.
Mahesh Goud said party leaders had several channels available to raise their grievances. They could approach the PCC president or the AICC state affairs in-charge.
Alternatively, leaders could take their concerns to the party general secretary or directly to the Congress high command, he said.
Konda Surekha conduct drew high command action
Mahesh Goud said the Congress wanted Konda Surekha to remain with the party. He added that she would receive opportunities if she continued in Congress.
However, the TPCC president defended the disciplinary action taken by the party leadership. He said the high command acted because it considered Konda Surekha conduct objectionable.
Mahesh Goud also referred to remarks made by Surekha’s daughter, Konda Sushmita. He said Surekha should have immediately condemned her daughter’s remarks.
According to the TPCC chief, the AICC took the issue seriously because Surekha had not condemned those remarks immediately.
His comments came as he explained the party leadership’s position on the action against the former minister. At the same time, he indicated that Congress wanted Surekha to continue in the organisation.
Konda Surekha conduct row and Revanth allegations
Mahesh Goud also rejected allegations made against Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
The TPCC president asserted that the Chief Minister had neither the need nor the circumstances to blackmail anyone.
His remarks addressed the disciplinary issue involving Surekha, the party’s expectations from its leaders and the allegations against the Chief Minister.
