Kavitha warns of mass nominations if BC quota not ensured in local polls

Hyderabad: BRS MLC K Kavitha on Wednesday warned the Telangana government that hundreds of protest nominations will be filed across the State if 42% reservation for Backward Classes is not implemented in the upcoming local body elections.

Speaking at her residence, Kavitha criticised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for not raising the BC reservation bill with Prime Minister Narendra Modi despite frequent visits to Delhi. She remarked that the Chief Minister could qualify for a Guinness World Record for unproductive trips to the capital and questioned his sincerity in securing approval for the BC quota legislation.

She also targeted the BJP for its proposed “Telangana Viksit Yatra,” calling it hollow without clear support for the BC Bill. Kavitha said public trust in the BJP’s outreach campaigns will remain low unless the party commits to the reservation demand.

Announcing the next phase of the agitation, Kavitha said a state-wide “Rail Roko” protest will be held on July 17. She advised people to avoid travel from July 16 to 18 and said various caste-based groups, including SC and ST organisations, are backing Telangana Jagruthi’s mobilisation efforts.

Kavitha also hit out at Andhra Pradesh Minister Nimmala Rama Naidu, accusing him of spreading false information on Godavari water allocations. She said former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had planned to use the Godavari-Penna link via Tupalagudem to benefit large parts of Telangana.

She accused the Andhra Pradesh government of moving ahead with the Banakacharla project while the Telangana government remained unresponsive. Kavitha criticised CM Revanth Reddy for his silence, calling it a betrayal of Telangana’s water rights.

She challenged his reluctance to act against the proposed 150 TMC Bollapalli reservoir project, which she claimed would submerge the Nallamala forest. Kavitha said Telangana Jagruthi would approach the courts to oppose the reservoir and demanded that the CM push the Centre to convene an Apex Council meeting on the matter.

On internal security, she called for an end to “Operation Kagaar” and urged both State and Central governments to resume dialogue with Maoists. She expressed condolences over the death of Maoist leader Gajjala Ravi and offered sympathies to his family.
