Congress laid foundation for growth, says Bhatti at Madhira bus stand event

Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Wednesday credited successive Congress governments for laying the groundwork for Telangana’s development, recalling the party’s earlier slogans promoting rural transport and electrification.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone for a ₹10 crore bus stand in Madhira constituency and launching ten new buses, Bhatti cited the slogans “A bus for every village” and “A light in every home” as long-standing Congress commitments that continue to guide governance today.

He criticised the previous ten-year administration for what he described as gross neglect of the Road Transport Corporation (RTC). He said the Congress-led government had revived the RTC from near collapse.

Bhatti praised Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar’s role in steering RTC back towards financial health. He said the current administration acted within 30 minutes of taking office to launch free RTC travel for women, calling it a tribute to the state’s female population.

According to him, over 186 crore free bus tickets have been issued to women so far. Out of ₹6,250 crore owed to RTC under this scheme, ₹6,210 crore has been cleared by the Finance Department. He said the initiative not only boosted ridership but also provided respect and mobility to women across Telangana.

He said RTC buses now run at capacity throughout the state and the scheme has helped make public transport sustainable again.

Bhatti also said the government is modernising bus stands and buses in line with current needs. He proposed setting up solar power plants on RTC lands and buildings to help generate electricity for the corporation.
