Hyderabad: BRS MLC K. Kavitha on Wednesday led a postcard campaign addressed to Sonia Gandhi, accusing the Congress government of reneging on its pre-poll promises to women and pensioners.
Speaking at Abids GPO, where she and Jagruthi activists posted thousands of cards, Kavitha said Congress had failed to deliver ₹2,500 monthly assistance to women and increased pensions promised to senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
She said the Congress committed fraud against women, elderly and disabled voters who supported the party based on guarantees publicised in Sonia Gandhi’s name. Despite completing 18 months in office, the government had failed to increase old-age pensions from ₹2,000 to ₹4,000 and disability pensions from ₹4,000 to ₹6,000, Kavitha said.
She challenged the Congress to a full debate in the Assembly over its failure to implement the six guarantees.
Referring to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, she said it was Congress that knew “KCR’s strength” and that’s why Telangana was formed. “Revanth Reddy is CM today only because Telangana exists. It’s unfortunate he forgets that,” she said.
Kavitha accused Reddy of misleading people and said that rather than addressing governance failures, he was trying to divert attention. She also alleged he gifted Godavari waters to Andhra Pradesh and served biryani to Chandrababu Naidu.
She warned that failure to secure 42% BC reservation before elections would cost Congress public support.
