Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruti on Wednesday held a Telangana Merger Day celebration programme at its Banjara Hills office. Leader K. Kavitha hoisted the national flag and honoured veteran fighter M. K. Moinuddin. Activists attended in large numbers and paid tribute to the Telangana armed peasant struggle.
Kavitha said September 17 marked Hyderabad’s merger with the Indian Union in 1948. She rejected attempts to project it as “Liberation Day.” The Telangana struggle, she said, was against feudal landlords and autocracy, not between religions. She warned that the BJP was distorting history and fuelling communal hatred.
Kavitha slams BJP and Congress on Telangana merger
Kavitha accused the Centre and the BJP of undermining federal spirit by promoting divisive programmes. She urged the Chief Minister to write to New Delhi and oppose them. She also criticised TPCC president Mahesh Goud for claiming Congress merged Telangana. According to her, the Nizam had already agreed to join India, but the Centre still sent the Army under Operation Polo. That action, she said, killed both Hindus and Muslims. Therefore, Congress had no role in the merger and nothing to celebrate.
She recalled that the 1942 peasant movement began as a fight against landlords and grew into a larger anti-feudal struggle. She said foreign universities still teach it as an example of people’s resistance. Kavitha also noted that her grandfather, Raghavendra Rao, supported Moinuddin in that struggle. She called it a personal honour to felicitate him at the event.
Finally, Kavitha said Telangana Jagruti would resist communal politics and false claims. She conveyed Telangana Merger Day greetings and urged citizens to celebrate the Ganga–Jamuna tehzeeb that defines Telangana.
