Kavitha demands Muharram funds during visit to Bibi-ka-Alam

Hyderabad: Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) president Kalvakuntla Kavitha demanded the immediate release of funds for Muharram arrangements during her visit to the historic Bibi-ka-Alam at Darulshifa on Monday. She alleged that the government had failed to make adequate preparations for the annual observances and called for urgent financial support to Ashur Khanas.

Speaking during the Muharram mourning observances, Kavitha said the occasion commemorates the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain in the Battle of Karbala. She urged people to draw inspiration from his commitment to humanity, justice and truth.

The TRS president also highlighted Hyderabad’s long tradition of communal harmony. She said people from different faiths had historically participated in each other’s festivals, a practice that dates back to the Nizam era and reflects the city’s inclusive culture.

Muharram funds demand highlights Ashur Khana concerns

Kavitha alleged that the government had neglected Muharram-related arrangements despite the significance of the observances. Therefore, she urged authorities to immediately release pending funds earmarked for Ashur Khanas to ensure smooth conduct of the events.

Referring to the famous Bibi-ka-Alam procession, she recalled that the ceremonial elephant had once been one of the major attractions of the annual event. She said the procession remains an important symbol of Hyderabad’s cultural and religious heritage.

Kavitha also alleged that budget allocations meant for Muslim minorities existed only on paper. Furthermore, she called on the government to release pending minority welfare funds without delay and ensure that sanctioned allocations reached the intended beneficiaries.

The visit formed part of the ongoing Muharram observances in Hyderabad and focused attention on demands related to religious institutions and minority welfare programmes.
