Hyderabad: Hyderabad Traffic Police proposed introducing one-way traffic in Lakdikapul to ease congestion and improve vehicle movement around several busy junctions.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar inspected the proposed routes on a motorcycle on Friday, November 6. He examined road conditions, traffic density and the feasibility of introducing the new system. Traffic Joint Commissioner D. Joel Davis and DCP-1 Avinash Kumar accompanied him during the inspection.
The officials examined roads around Dwaraka Hotel, Old Saifabad Police Station, HDFC Junction, Iqbal Minar and Ravindra Bharathi. They also inspected Lakdikapul crossroads and Old Control Room Junction. Sajjanar issued instructions to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion and prevent road accidents.
Proposed one-way traffic in Lakdikapul to change key routes
Under the proposed one-way traffic in Lakdikapul, vehicles travelling from Old Control Room towards Secunderabad would face route changes. Vehicles heading towards Iqbal Minar through Ravindra Bharathi would no longer be permitted to proceed directly along that route.
Instead, police proposed diverting them through HDFC Junction, Old Saifabad Police Station, Iqbal Minar and Secretariat Junction. Similarly, vehicles travelling from Nirankari Junction towards Old Control Room would not be allowed to proceed directly towards HDFC Junction.
Police planned to divert these vehicles near Old Saifabad Police Station towards Iqbal Minar. From there, motorists would take a right turn and proceed through Ravindra Bharathi to reach Old Control Room.
Another proposed diversion would affect vehicles travelling from Secretariat Junction and Telangana Thalli Flyover towards Old Saifabad Police Station. These vehicles would travel through Iqbal Minar towards Ravindra Bharathi before taking a U-turn at Old Control Room.
They would then proceed through Assembly Gate No. 3, Ravindra Bharathi and HDFC Junction to reach Old Saifabad Police Station. The proposed one-way traffic in Lakdikapul would initially undergo a trial before authorities considered permanent implementation.
Sajjanar said police would soon convene a coordination meeting with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board and electricity department.
Other stakeholder departments would also participate in discussions before authorities finalised the traffic arrangements. The Commissioner said the proposed system would first undergo experimental implementation to assess its impact on motorists.
Police would decide on permanent implementation only after reviewing the trial and ensuring that the changes caused no inconvenience to the public. Meanwhile, Hyderabad Police were examining the feasibility of similar one-way arrangements in other congested areas under the city commissionerate.
Sajjanar said officials were holding regular consultations with traffic experts to develop scientific traffic management measures. He also appealed to motorists to cooperate with police in improving road safety and ensuring smoother vehicle movement.
Sajjanar inspects KBR Park one-way route
After inspecting Lakdikapul, Sajjanar visited the existing one-way traffic route around KBR Park. He travelled along the entire stretch on a motorcycle to examine current traffic arrangements, road conditions and congestion points.
The Commissioner reviewed measures to improve vehicle movement and develop long-term solutions to traffic problems around the park. He said authorities had decided to introduce an additional traffic lane alongside the existing one-way route to handle increasing vehicle volumes.
The proposed additional lane would help improve traffic flow and reduce interruptions along the busy corridor. However, underground pipelines, electricity poles and other utilities were obstructing the proposed lane development.
Sajjanar said the departments concerned would take urgent steps to relocate these utilities and facilitate the additional lane. The Traffic Police, GHMC and construction agencies were coordinating efforts to improve traffic conditions around KBR Park.
The Commissioner said the coordinated measures would focus on smoother vehicle movement and safer travel for motorists using the corridor.
