Kavitha slams Kaleshwaram mismanagement, demands BC justice, Kamareddy flood relief

Hyderabad: BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha has sharply criticised the Congress government and her former party colleagues. She raised serious concerns over irrigation delays, inadequate BC welfare, and poor flood response in Kamareddy district.

Kaleshwaram failure and irrigation demands

Speaking during Jagruti’s “Jana Baata” outreach, Kavitha questioned why the Kaleshwaram project had failed to deliver water to even a single acre in Kamareddy. She said Packages 21 and 22 benefited only contractors and involved faulty designs and incomplete land acquisition.

She demanded that the Congress government either complete Kaleshwaram or present an alternative irrigation plan for the region.

Flood relief neglect and Kodangal favouritism

Kavitha criticised the lack of flood relief despite heavy losses during the August 2025 rains. Only 400 households received immediate ₹11,000 support, while many received nothing, she said.

She accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of favouring Kodangal, his former constituency, over Kamareddy, where he contested. She claimed the CM ignored local flood victims after a brief visit and no funds followed.

‘BC betrayal’ by Congress and BJP

Calling Revanth a “BC betrayer,” Kavitha said both Congress and BJP had let down the Backward Classes. Congress failed to provide BCs with enough seats, delayed promised corporations, and cut key schemes like free power and fee reimbursements.

She questioned why Revanth had not taken an all-party team to Delhi or written to the PM on the issue. She reiterated Jagruti’s demand for 42% reservations for BCs in government contracts and full use of the BC welfare budget.

Kavitha highlighted stalled irrigation works, including the ₹464 crore Nagamadugu project, where only ₹64 crore had been spent. She also pointed to the collapsed Lingampalli-Kamareddy bridge, which went unrepaired for months.

She accused Kamareddy MLA Venkat Ramana Reddy of inaction and said BJP leaders did little during floods. She alleged Congress filed police cases against youth protesting poor roads in Jukkal and Chevella.

Jagruti will meet the Irrigation Minister to press for regional projects. Kavitha demanded revival of Nizam Sagar through desilting and tourism development, a cotton ginning mill for local farmers, and better roads across Jukkal.

She also raised the lack of compensation for a shepherd killed near railway tracks and criticised the halt in the sheep distribution scheme. Jagruti has supported the victim’s family with ₹50,000 and pledged to fund the children’s education.

Kavitha pointed to irregularities in Indiramma housing and said temples like Trilingeshwara and Kala Bhairava Swamy remained unfunded. She urged the government to respect public sentiment and provide the promised support.

She called on youth and women to question political parties during the panchayat elections. “Ask what they will do—and if they don’t deliver, confront them,” she said.

Jagruti’s promise of accountability

Kavitha concluded by stating that Jagruti would release an “Action Taken Report” after every five district visits. She stressed the group’s twin strategy: address urgent issues immediately and develop long-term solutions through structured plans.
