HYDERABAD: BRS MLC K. Kavitha has strongly condemned the alleged police abuse and humiliation of Dalits in Lingampet mandal of Kamareddy district on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti. She termed the incident an intolerable act of cruelty and a shameful reflection of governance.
Kavitha alleged that the police stripped, humiliated, and arrested Dalits merely for putting up banners to mark Ambedkar Jayanti. She questioned whether such actions were being carried out under Dr B.R. Ambedkar’s Constitution or if Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had imposed his own rulebook.
She accused the police of behaving more like a mob than public servants, stating that such bold actions are only possible when there is protection from higher authorities. According to her, this was not just an instance of oppression but an open hate crime.
Kavitha demanded that:
– The involved police personnel be immediately suspended
– Cases be registered under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act
– The government issue a public apology
She asserted that the issue was not merely about law and order, but a targeted act against a specific community. “We will not allow any marginalised voice to be silenced,” she declared.
The incident has raised serious concerns, especially as it occurred on a day when the government publicly commemorated Ambedkar Jayanti and spoke of Dalit rights. It has now sparked questions over the actual protection of dignity and freedom afforded to Dalits in practice.
Unimaginable brutality against Dalits on Ambedkar Jayanti, what a shameful reflection of governance. Is this Dr. Ambedkar’s Constitution in action, or CM Revanth Reddy’s personal rulebook?
