Kavitha apologises farmers over handcuffing incidents during BRS rule

Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruti chief and MLC K Kavitha on Thursday expressed regret over incidents in which farmers were handcuffed during the previous BRS government’s tenure.

Speaking about decisions taken under the government led by K Chandrashekar Rao, Kavitha said such actions against farmers should never have happened. She said leaders who held responsibility at the time shared accountability for those decisions.

Kavitha announced that she was offering a public apology to the farming community. She said she personally felt responsible for the mistakes committed during that period.

Kavitha apology to farmers refers to Khammam chilli growers case

Kavitha made these remarks while referring to an earlier incident in Khammam district. During that episode, authorities handcuffed chilli farmers amid protests over their demands.

The incident had triggered criticism across Telangana at the time. It also remained a sensitive political issue linked to the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi government.

Senior leaders rarely admit governance failures in public. Therefore, Kavitha apology farmers remarks quickly turned into a major political talking point. Political circles closely watched how the ruling Congress and opposition parties would respond.
