Jupally Krishna Rao vows drug-free Telangana

Hyderabad: Prohibition and Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao said the government was determined to drive the narcotics menace out of the State and build a drug-free Telangana.

He spoke after unveiling the diary and calendars brought out by the Telangana Prohibition and Excise Executive Officers Association at Ravindra Bharati on Friday. The Minister said drug abuse was destroying youth and tearing families apart.

Expressing concern over rising addiction, he said many youngsters were losing their future to substance abuse. Families were collapsing and parents’ hopes were fading, he added. Therefore, he said, society must eliminate such destructive forces and work towards a drug-free Telangana.

He described the recent death of constable Soumya, who died while trying to stop a ganja gang during duty, as tragic. The government, he said, stood firmly with her family.

He recalled that the State had immediately sanctioned Rs 1 crore as financial assistance. The Minister said the administration would extend all necessary support to the bereaved family.

Minister reiterates drug-free Telangana mission

Jupally Krishna Rao commended officials who were working with commitment to curb illegal liquor and eradicate narcotics. He said enforcement teams were playing a key role in achieving drug-free Telangana.

Further, he directed officers to intensify action against trafficking networks. He assured them that the government would stand behind them in the fight and provide necessary resources.

He said the crackdown would continue until the State was free from the drug menace. According to him, sustained enforcement and public awareness were essential to secure a drug-free Telangana.

Additional Excise Commissioner Syed Yasin Qureshi, Excise Academy Director Suresh Rathod, Joint Commissioner (Enforcement) G Anjan Rao and Deputy Commissioner J Harikishan attended the programme. Association president Sura Krishna and general secretary Chiranjeevi were also present.
