Jubilee Hills inspector suspended over alleged lapses in Sumanth case

Hyderabad: The government suspended Jubilee Hills inspector Muthu Yadav over alleged lapses in registering an FIR and pursuing former ministerial OSD Narla Sumanth.

Muthu Yadav had taken charge as the Jubilee Hills inspector only about six weeks earlier. He had replaced an inspector who was also suspended recently in connection with another case.

The government acted against Muthu Yadav over his handling of the case involving Sumanth, former OSD to Minister Konda Surekha.

According to the details available, authorities found lapses in registering an FIR against Sumanth. Muthu Yadav also faced allegations of failing to act promptly to apprehend him. The government subsequently placed the inspector under suspension.

The development brought another change at the Jubilee Hills Police Station, which covers a high-profile area that includes VIP residences and the Chief Minister’s residence.

Jubilee Hills inspector faced action in former OSD case

The controversy centred on Narla Sumanth, who had earlier served as Konda Surekha’s Officer on Special Duty. Sumanth had previously worked as a contract employee with the Pollution Control Board.

After Surekha became a minister, he joined her office on deputation as OSD. However, allegations subsequently surfaced against Sumanth over his conduct. In October 2025, he was accused of threatening officials of a cement company with a firearm while allegedly demanding money.

He also faced allegations of overstepping his role in administrative matters. Following those allegations, the government removed Sumanth from the OSD post. The matter later developed into a political controversy in Telangana.

Police had gone to the minister’s residence to take Sumanth into custody. During that episode, an argument broke out between police personnel and Surekha’s daughter, Sushmitha. The Sumanth case subsequently remained under scrutiny, including the police response to the allegations against him.

Jubilee Hills inspector suspended six weeks after taking charge

Muthu Yadav had assumed responsibility for the Jubilee Hills Police Station about six weeks before his suspension. The government cited alleged negligence in dealing with the former OSD’s case while taking action against him.

Specifically, the Jubilee Hills inspector faced allegations of delaying the registration of the FIR against Sumanth. Authorities also accused him of showing laxity in efforts to apprehend the former OSD.

The suspension marked another leadership disruption at the police station following the earlier suspension of Muthu Yadav’s predecessor. The latest action also added another development to the controversy surrounding former OSD Narla Sumanth.
