Job scam convict gets one-year jail term in Rs 10 lakh fraud case

Hyderabad: A Hyderabad court on Thursday sentenced a job scam convict to one year of simple imprisonment in a case involving a Rs 10 lakh job fraud and criminal intimidation.

The VIII Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Nampally, convicted Ananthula Abhilash, 24, of Nirmal district. The court found him guilty of cheating a businessman by falsely promising a high-paying job and later threatening him when he sought a refund.

The accused faced charges under Sections 420 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code in a case registered by Chaderghat Police.

Job scam convict cheated businessman of Rs 10 lakh

According to police, Abhilash was a long-time acquaintance of complainant Shyam Sunder. He allegedly persuaded the businessman to pay Rs 10 lakh by claiming he could secure a lucrative job through influential contacts.

Police said the complainant handed over the money in the presence of witnesses. The accused allegedly issued a security cheque and collected blank cheques and a promissory note. He reportedly assured the complainant that he would arrange the job within a month.

However, the promised job never materialised.

When Shyam Sunder sought a refund on March 5, 2017, the accused allegedly visited his residence with antisocial elements and threatened him with serious consequences.

Job scam convict found guilty after investigation

Following a court-referred complaint, Chaderghat Police registered the case in 2017 and launched an investigation.

After examining witness testimonies and other evidence, the court convicted the accused on Thursday.

Besides imposing a one-year jail sentence, the court also fined the accused Rs 10,000.

Chaderghat Police appreciated the efforts of investigating officer A. Rajshekar Reddy, who served as Sub-Inspector during the investigation. The police also acknowledged Assistant Public Prosecutor J. Ramani and other personnel involved in securing the conviction.
