Hyderabad: Nagar Kurnool MP Mallu Ravi said Parliament had turned into a “drama centre” as the INDIA bloc MPs demanded a SIR debate, while the NDA government, he argued, avoided any discussion. He addressed reporters at Telangana Bhavan in Delhi on Tuesday and criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ignoring repeated requests from the Opposition.
Ravi said the Opposition asked several times for a debate on the Special Intensive Revision. Each time, however, the House adjourned without progress. He added that the Prime Minister dismissed their demand as “drama,” even though MPs were raising public concerns. Ravi questioned how democracy could function if elected members were denied space to speak. He also stated that the Chief Ministers of West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Telangana opposed SIR and continued their resistance.
Telangana MPs intensify call for SIR debate
Ravi argued that an SIR debate would reveal key facts to the public. He alleged that NDA MPs insulted Opposition members during Question Hour. Parliament, he noted, did not function for even one hour across two days, which he said wasted public money. According to him, the ruling side lost the moral right to run the House. He criticised Modi for staying away from the House “even for a minute” during the past two days. Ravi added that SIR would take place in 12 states and promised to explain its impact to the public.
Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy also addressed the media in Delhi. He said the Opposition wanted debates on public issues, not disruptions. He alleged that the Election Commission introduced SIR to reduce votes. The Centre’s Sanchar app, he said, raised serious concerns. He opposed the call to download it and warned that it could expose personal and family information. Reddy argued that the app enabled tracking of private data. He urged the Centre to review the Sanchar app and noted that transparency required open consultations. He added that all stakeholders had to be heard before introducing any tool with such an impact.
