High Court to hear BC reservation issue as fresh petition filed

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court is set to hear a petition today on the BC reservation issue, after Medchal–Malkajgiri resident Madhava Reddy challenged the government order that raised BC reservations to 42 per cent. He filed the petition seeking the cancellation of GO 9, arguing that the enhanced quota violated existing norms.

The court had earlier stayed the MPTC and ZPTC election schedule issued by the State Election Commission. It directed that any elections, if held, must follow the previous reservation structure. On October 10, the court ordered the government to file its counter-affidavit within a month. It also instructed the petitioner to file a reply affidavit two weeks after the government submission. The matter was then adjourned for six weeks.

Second plea adds pressure on BC reservation issue

Another petition on the BC reservation issue reached the High Court on Tuesday. It is alleged that the government reduced BC reservations in panchayat elections by ignoring the earlier 23 per cent quota. The petitioner argued that the state acted deliberately and sought immediate intervention. He requested the court to direct the government to restore fair and legally valid reservations for BC communities.

The petition was filed by State BC Welfare Association president Mekapotula Narender Goud, who contended that the revised quota harmed BC interests and required urgent judicial review.
