Hyderabad Youth Courage founder Salman Khan’s Jubilee Hills nomination rejected

Hyderabad: Election officials rejected the nomination of Hyderabad Youth Courage (HYC) founder and president Salman Khan for the Jubilee Hills Assembly bye-election on Wednesday after finding major discrepancies in his papers.

Khan submitted four sets of nomination papers as an independent candidate. During scrutiny, officials found irregularities and cancelled all four sets. Consequently, his name did not appear on the final list of candidates.

Salman Khan alleges political pressure on officials

Soon after the rejection, Salman Khan alleged that the Returning Officer acted under pressure from the ruling Congress government. In a post on X, he wrote, “Aaj 22-10-225 ko mera Jubilee Hills By Poll Se Mere 4 Nomination Reject Kardiye Gaye Bina Koi Wajah Ke. Congress Government Ke pressure Me Returning Officer kaam Kar Raha hain.”

Over the last three months, Khan visited minority-dominated localities in Jubilee Hills and carried out several social activities. Once the Election Commission released the bye-election schedule, he filed his nomination and began holding public meetings and a padayatra to mobilise support.

Asset declaration and earlier controversies

In his affidavit, Salman Khan declared assets worth ₹5,18,101. His wife listed ₹1,618 in her bank account, ₹20,000 in cash, and three tolas of gold. The modest asset details surprised many, especially since Khan earlier faced allegations of crowdfunding misuse, bribery, and misappropriation of charity funds.

A few days before his papers came under scrutiny, Borabanda police booked him for allegedly making provocative remarks on social media. Meanwhile, several residents criticised his statements and demanded legal action.

The Jubilee Hills bye-election will take place on November 11, and the counting of votes will occur on November 14. The bypoll follows the death of BRS leader G. Maganti, who died of a heart attack in June.
