Hyderabad wins U-19 Rajiv Gandhi T20 as minister urges youth to choose sports

Hyderabad: Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar on Saturday urged youth to stay away from drugs and harmful habits. He instead encouraged them to pursue sports for a disciplined and healthy life. He was speaking at the closing ceremony of the 19th Rajiv Gandhi U-19 League T20 Championship–2026, held at LB Stadium, which featured the Hyderabad U-19 T20 win.

Congratulating the Hyderabad team for clinching the title, the minister praised the young cricketers for their performance in securing the Hyderabad U-19 T20 win. The tournament drew teams from 12 states. He also commended Gurukul students for their rising success in sports, attributing it to continued support from the Telangana government.

Highlighting the State’s renewed push for sports development under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the minister described the proposed Young India Sports University as a historic initiative. The university, he said, aims to nurture future sporting champions and position Telangana as a national and global sports hub. This sports focus was evident.

He reiterated the importance of sports as a tool to shape the physical and mental discipline of the youth. Additionally, he added that the government is committed to expanding opportunities for young athletes across all regions, inspired by successes.
