Hyderabad police form Central Investigation Team to boost conviction rate

Hyderabad: To strengthen investigations and secure convictions in major cases, Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar has announced the formation of a Central Investigation Team. The initiative aims not just to arrest offenders but to ensure they receive strict punishment in court.

Sajjanar made the announcement while chairing the monthly crime review meeting for October at the TGICCC auditorium in Banjara Hills. He reviewed case registrations, investigation methods, and old cases that ended in acquittals. He directed officers to act decisively on pending cases and warned of disciplinary action for negligence.

Strict orders for timely FIRs and zero delays

The Commissioner stressed that all complaints received at police stations must lead to immediate FIRs. He warned that skipping or downplaying complaints will not be tolerated. Officers showing delay or carelessness will face suspension, he said.

Special focus on major crime threats

Sajjanar called for clear action plans for every case and ordered strict crackdowns on drugs, road accidents, online gaming, and betting. He asked officers to prioritise cases involving cybercrime, women’s safety, street offences, and food adulteration.

He directed SHOs to track habitual offenders and rowdy-sheeters closely. In severe cases, police must invoke the PD Act. Technical evidence must be systematically collected to improve conviction rates, he added.

Cybercrime control and tech upgrades

The Commissioner underlined the growing threat of cybercrime and asked departments to adopt advanced technology and seek expert assistance during investigations. “Only when criminals receive tough sentences will real deterrence be created,” he stated.

He instructed officers to always carry their service weapons while on duty. Weapon drills must be conducted every 15 days. SHOs were told to maintain full control over their jurisdiction and guide junior staff to clear pending cases swiftly.

Additional CP (Crimes) Srinivasulu and senior IPS officers, including DCPs K. Apoorva Rao, Shwetha, Rakshitha Krishnamurthy, S. Rashmi Perumal, K. Shilpavali, C. Rupesh, K. Kiran Prabhakar, B. Balaswamy, G. Chandramohan, C.H. Srinivas, V. Aravind Babu, and P. Lavanya Nayak Jadhav, attended the meeting. All ACPs, SHOs, and Additional DCPs across zones were also present.
