Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metro Rail on Monday inducted 20 transgender personnel into its security team, taking a major step toward inclusive public services. The move aims to improve safety especially for women commuters and support social equity.
Nearly 5 lakh people use the Metro daily, and women make up about 30% of them. The new recruits will serve at key stations and inside trains, with special focus on ladies-only coaches and public areas.
All 20 personnel have completed training in security protocols and passenger support. They will operate baggage scanners, manage safety at concourse and street levels, and help with general station duties. Their role supports the Telangana Government’s commitment to dignity and equal opportunity for all communities.
