Hyderabad emerges as GCC hub; minister reviews Pico plans

Hyderabad: IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu said Hyderabad had emerged as a preferred destination for global capability centres, strengthening its position as a Hyderabad GCC hub for leading financial institutions.

He cited a strong talent pool, robust infrastructure and affordable rentals as key factors attracting global firms. In addition, he pointed to smoother traffic conditions compared to other metros. As a result, companies increasingly shifted operations to the city.

Representatives of Pico Technology met the minister at the Dr B. R. Ambedkar Secretariat. Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy also attended the meeting. The firm, which operates from New York, planned to set up a GCC through its subsidiary, Pico Technology India.

During the meeting, Sridhar Babu outlined infrastructure and growth opportunities in Hyderabad. He said the government planned upgrades to meet needs over the next 5 to 20 years. Office space occupancy in the city stood at 73 per cent, he noted. In contrast, Mumbai recorded 52 per cent occupancy.

Further, traffic congestion and air pollution had become major concerns in Bengaluru and Mumbai, he said. Consequently, IT firms and GCCs had started moving to Hyderabad, reinforcing its growth as a Hyderabad GCC hub.

Meanwhile, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy announced large allocations for road development. A Regional Ring Road was under construction about 30 km beyond the existing Nehru Outer Ring Road, he said. He added that radial roads would connect key corridors.

Plans also included a rail line alongside the ring road to improve connectivity. As part of city upgrades, authorities proposed a double-decker road between Hayathnagar and LB Nagar. The lower deck would serve local traffic, while the upper levels would handle through traffic.

The project would place Hyderabad among select cities after Nagpur to build such infrastructure, he said. The tender process would conclude within two months, after which work would begin.

Pico Technology founder and CEO Jarrod Yuster, Pico India CEO Hari Kodandaraman and director Sitaram attended the meeting.
