Hyderabad: Hyderabad Youth Courage (HYC) founder Salman Khan joined the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Thursday in the presence of the party’s working president K. T. Rama Rao (KTR). His decision came a day after the Election Commission rejected his Jubilee Hills bye-election nomination during scrutiny.
Party sources said Salman Khan chose to enter BRS soon after officials rejected his papers. His move drew attention since he had planned to contest the bypoll as an independent candidate. The timing of his switch to BRS triggered discussion in the constituency’s political circles.
Salman Khan alleges bias and joins BRS
The Election Commission rejected all four sets of Salman Khan’s nomination papers on Wednesday. Soon after, he accused the Returning Officer of acting under pressure from the ruling Congress government. In a post on X, he wrote that officials discarded his nominations “without any valid reason.”
Salman Khan has remained in the news for multiple controversies. Several individuals accused him of misusing crowdfunding funds, committing financial fraud, and diverting charitable donations. In his election affidavit, he declared assets worth ₹5,18,101, a figure that surprised many.
Earlier, Borabanda police booked him for allegedly posting provocative religious remarks on social media. The police are investigating that case.
Analysts weigh impact on Jubilee Hills bye-election
Salman Khan’s entry into BRS soon after his nomination rejection created fresh interest in the Jubilee Hills bye-election. Analysts believe his move could influence voter sentiment in minority-dominated areas. The party leadership is also exploring ways to use his outreach in the local campaign.
The Jubilee Hills bye-election will take place on November 11, and officials will count votes on November 14.
