Hyderabad: Former Minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Deputy Floor Leader T. Harish Rao on Sunday inspected the Motakondur electricity sub-station in Yadadri Bhongir district. The surprise visit followed complaints from farmers about alleged undeclared power cuts.
Speaking to the media at the sub-station, Harish Rao alleged that department personnel had removed the official log book before his arrival. He claimed the move prevented an inspection of records showing actual power supply to the agriculture sector.
Harish Rao questioned why the government was reluctant to make the log book public if farmers were receiving uninterrupted 24-hour power. He said the records contain details of three-phase supply duration, tripping incidents and total supply hours.
He also said farmers in Motakondur had reported receiving only six to seven hours of power a day. According to him, the reduced supply was affecting crops, while the missing records had made it difficult to verify the actual supply position during his inspection.
The BRS leader also criticised local Congress MLA Beerla Ilaiah and Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy. He urged both leaders to visit the affected areas and directly address the concerns raised by farmers.
Harish Rao accused the Congress government of using what he described as “diversion politics” to avoid accountability over agricultural power supply, the Section 22-A prohibited lands list and alleged land irregularities.
He also referred to questions concerning his family’s assets. Harish Rao said asset disclosures relating to his family were already available in public records through official election affidavits and income tax filings.
