Hyderabad: BRS leader and former minister Harish Rao accused the Congress government of mistreating farmers in Telangana. He condemned alleged acts of intimidation against farmers seeking official help. In a post on X, he criticised the government over two incidents involving farmers who approached authorities with grievances.
Harish Rao said farmers faced inhumane treatment when they sought help with land disputes and other problems. He cited an incident at a tahsildar’s office. An official allegedly asked a farmer whether he was still alive. Rao described the reported remark as evidence of official arrogance and a lack of humanity.
He also condemned an alleged police assault on a farmer who questioned the power supply to agricultural fields. According to Rao, a sub-inspector attacked the farmer with a baton. He alleged that the officer struck the farmer in the face for raising the issue.
Harish Rao on farmers and alleged police action
Rao said police personnel should protect farmers, not attack them. He accused the Congress government of failing to resolve farmers’ grievances. Instead, he alleged, officials were intimidating those who raised concerns.
The BRS leader said the government’s actions contradicted its claim of public welfare. He described the administration as oppressive and accused it of denying farmers the right to live with dignity.
Rao warned the government against filing cases against farmers who questioned official decisions. He also condemned the use of force to silence their complaints. The government would have to pay a price if it continued to suppress farmers, he cautioned.
His criticism focused on the alleged treatment of farmers at government offices and the reported police action over agricultural power supply. Rao raised both incidents in his post on X. He demanded accountability from a government that, in his view, should address farmers’ problems rather than intimidate them.
