Hyderabad: Former Minister and BRS senior leader T. Harish Rao on Friday strongly condemned the arrest of students and unemployed youth who attempted to participate in the ‘Chalo Secretariat’ protest demanding job notifications.
Describing the arrests as “undemocratic,” Harish Rao said the Congress government’s crackdown reflected authoritarian tendencies. “This is a clear sign of the government’s high-handedness. Silencing students and job aspirants with arrests is not acceptable in a democracy,” he said.
He demanded that all those detained be released immediately and criticised the state for backtracking on its promise. “The Congress had assured that two lakh government job notifications would be issued in the first year. That promise must be honoured without further delay,” he said.
Harish Rao also lashed out at Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, accusing him of ignoring the very youth whose support brought the Congress to power. The protest, led by student unions and unemployed forums, faced preemptive detentions across the state on Friday.
The BRS leader said the agitation was justified and warned that further suppression of youth voices would only fuel discontent.
