HYDERABAD: Former minister and Siddipet MLA T. Harish Rao predicted that the Congress would lose power just as quickly as it gained it in Telangana. He made these remarks at a meeting with BRS leaders held at Shobha Garden in Gajwel, where he set the direction for the party’s upcoming Rajatotsava Sabha.
Harish Rao noted that during its ten years of governance, BRS only held large public meetings during elections. However, the upcoming gathering is a prestigious event, with enthusiastic participation expected. He called upon one lakh party workers from the united Medak district to attend voluntarily.
Slamming the current government, he said business activity had collapsed under Revanth Reddy’s leadership. “Ask any trader—they’ll tell you business is dead,” he said, adding that people were already disillusioned with Congress. He cited irregularities in loan waivers, claiming that in one mandal, 5,100 beneficiaries received waivers while 7,300 did not.
Highlighting the inclusive development under BRS, he said every community in Gajwel had been treated fairly. Expressing confidence in local body elections, Harish Rao instructed leaders to travel with workers in buses and take responsibility for their safe return. Special buses were arranged for women leaders.
“If our leaders work hard, we will win the local elections. We will win both municipalities in Gajwel,” he declared.
Criticising the current administration, he said under BRS, rental properties were in high demand, but now “To Let” signs were everywhere. Calling Chief Minister Revanth Reddy deceitful, he accused him of lying both inside and outside the Assembly.
Harish Rao mocked Revanth’s claim that “Young India School” was his own brand and said that the only brands truly associated with him were false promises, lies, and deforestation. “If KCR is known for planting trees, Revanth is known for chopping them down—hundreds of acres at a time,” he said.
He questioned why cases were filed against farmers for cutting trees, but not against Revanth for clearing 400 acres. Alleging financial misconduct, he said Revanth mortgaged the land and secured ₹10,000 crore in loans after paying ₹170 crore in bribes, which he exposed through an RTI application.
Harish Rao claimed that Revanth’s governance had weakened the bureaucracy and left Congress unable to recover. “Even if you try to lift it with a jacket, Congress won’t rise,” he quipped.
He also criticised the poor quality of rice being distributed in villages, saying 40% of it was broken grains. He demanded that Gurukul schools be provided with the same quality rice as under KCR’s government. He drew contrasts with the BJP, which refused to procure paddy, and the Congress, which is failing to serve quality food.
Accusing the Congress of diverting ₹14,000 crore from the Rythu Bandhu scheme, he said loan waivers were incomplete. “Even during the pandemic, KCR ensured Rythu Bandhu benefits were delivered. He paid contractors on time. Today, those same contractors are being forced to protest outside the Secretariat,” he said.
Calling for unity, Harish Rao urged party members to work hard and ensure victory for BRS in the upcoming elections.
