Harish Rao slams Congress after lockout at Maheshwaram medical college over unpaid rent

HYDERABAD: BRS MLA Harish Rao sharply criticised the Congress government after the Maheshwaram Government Medical College in Adibatla municipality, Ranga Reddy district, was locked by the building owner over unpaid rent. He questioned whether this was the “change” promised by the Congress, noting that welfare hostels were locked during the previous term and now medical colleges were facing the same fate.

The incident occurred after the management of the privately-owned building that houses the medical college claimed that rent had not been paid for several months. The premises, located in the Bharat Engineering College campus, had been leased to run the government medical college, which was inaugurated last year.

On Tuesday morning, students arriving at the college were shocked to find the main entrance locked. The incident quickly drew attention, prompting intervention from senior officials. Following discussions, the authorities reportedly assured that pending dues would be cleared within two days, after which the lock was removed.

Harish Rao responded to the situation via social media platform X, lashing out at the Congress administration. He accused the government of incompetence and failing to fulfil even basic obligations such as rent payments for essential institutions.

He said that the Congress government, which claimed to bring change, was instead shutting down crucial welfare and educational facilities. “Is this the change Congress promised?” he asked, adding that the locking of a medical college over rent issues symbolised the party’s failure in governance.

The incident has sparked political outrage, with opposition parties demanding accountability from the state government and questioning its commitment to public education and healthcare infrastructure.
